SLEPT ON: HAV PLENTY

I've heard a great deal of people complain about how there are very few intelligent black comedies so I wonder how many of ya'll have seen Hav Plenty? This independent flick was released in 1997 and has a widely unknown cast of actors. It was written, directed and stars Christopher Scott Cherot who earned a Grand Jury Prize nomination at Sundance. Not bad. Cherot even went on to write for the first season of BET's College Hill. If you haven't seen it RENT IT ASAP.

Bad Brains

A lot of rappers wanna jump on the "Rockstar" or "punk rock" hype and their fans are following suit but what do ya'll know about Bad Brains? A band who formed in 1977 in Washington D.C. that broke color barriers in the often racist punk rock scene. If you don't i suggest you educate yourselves these dudes are no joke.

Their self-titled album is considered a punk classic with genre anthems such as "pay to cum", "Banned in DC" and "Attitude". They've recorded 8 albums spanning from 1982- 2007 and have influenced everyone from Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Mos Def
Clothing line Supreme even worked with the forefathers of hardcore to create a rather clean collection of tees and shoes which helps me get over the fact that Bad Brains swag is noticeably missing from Hot topic's wall of band tees smh. Not to mention Vans added them to the handful of bands(including greats like Kiss, Iron Maiden, Slayer and The Misfits) worthy of a tribute shoe. Pretty Dope huh?
